snake to start the day?

watered the overgrown vege garden this morning

by hand

picked tonights dinner

had 2 coffees, washed and hung out tablecloths for this weekends market stalls, got 2 batches of castile and shampoo i made yesterday into their 30 litre dilution pots,

got lids on 70 foot balm, 40 jarrah lip balm and 40 balm for baby bottoms.........................then cleared the decks for lotion orders that came in unexpectedly this morning....
yippee!...........................then!

i heard the doglets warning bark! which means...COME AND LOOK SOMEONE!... RIGHT NOW!!!!...........................................yes, it IS a shouting bark, continuous, short, deep wooooffs : )
so i went to find him............out the back of the Shed, he was looking pointedly, but at a distance of half a metre, at the compost i have under black plastic, so with caution i picked up the handy hoe, pushed the bricks off and lifted up the plastic! ..........and sure enough there was a beautiful young dugite, its a bit late in the year, but it was warm and sunny today and there are lots of mice about

so we (the dog and me) called for assistance from the other half, collected various utensils for catching and bagging to take away elsewhere....i was sceptical about this part......especially as i was asked to hold the bag open?????......but by the time we got back it had slipped away to somewhere else in the vege patch, so i didnt get a photo to show you : (
i nicked this one from here! because its the same coulour
it reappeared at the other end of the garden 30 metres away about an hour later, and went under some large pot plants that unfortunately havent been weeded around since spring, so i suppose thats another job to add to the list for me and the dog on the weekend while the other half does markets on his own.

so after another coffee and a sit down we went back to the 'big kitchen' to start making 60 lotions for orders and 100 for stock, and its now 9pm and there is one batch of 60 left to bottle!
phew!!............ what a day! perhaps i will warm them up and bottle in the morning

foots ease balm

i listed our foots ease balm on etsy last night.

you could be the lucky recipient of a jar, if you decide its your favourite thing in our etsy shop!! by entering our Down Under Eostre giveaway, just have browse in our shop, then leave a comment here telling us what your favourite item is and why! easy! (open to australian residents only :( sorry ! until April 15)

dont know about anybody else but my feet have been suffering this summer especially since its slip on shoes only for me this time of year and its so dry anyway, here in the west. i remember the weather man said it was only 20% humidity a few weeks back. but of course foot balm helps.

........especially after standing in the 'Big Kitchen' (6m x 3m) all day, the commercial one where we create all our lovely natural concoctions!

...........slaving over a hot stove

cetti nearly fills the 'Small Kitchen' (2.5m x 2m) our domestic one, where we create all our lovely food to feed ourselves with.

and while i do enjoy making skincare...its the many large pots, some of them are 30 litres, needing to be washed i object to! i suppose thats what happens when you are a 2 person + dog (he doesnt help out, in the 'Big Kitchen'
)....operation, you get to do it ALL yourself!?

the maremma, the fox and the tiger snake

the solar powered 'hut' we rent from friends, so we have somewhere to sleep when we do markets in the margaret river area, most weekends.

the lights last for ages at this time of year with all this sunshine, but i will have to adjust my brain for the middle of winter when batteries wont keep the lights going till late.

its been great to have a place we can stay with cetti the maremma without having to worry about intruding on friends, (he is quite large......think, miniature pony), about other dogs, or keeping him cooped up in the car. he had an unfortunate interlude with one of the many short eared rabbits that roam around the owners house about 500 metres away. he thought he'd done good, when i turned up in a panic to retrieve him from the scene of the crime!!!! we have always encouraged catching of rabbits, mice etc............ luckily he was the just latest in a long line of short eared rabbit catching visitors and they were philosophical about it.
he has flushed out a feral cat from the timber stack, and he likes to keep the area immediately around the hut free from roos. Its fascinating to watch the interactions between him and the roos changing as they get used to each other. Its hilarious to see him
'just pretending' to be asleep.....surrounded by them lined up in rows at dawn, ears up, about 20 metres away, like statues, watching him intently.....................they scatter when i appear.

and is working on getting rid of the resident fox, we went up the hill sunday late afternoon to see if we could find the fox, but cetti accidentally found a tiger snake instead. i was 90% sure he didnt get bitten, but all i saw was him jumping sideways suddenly and looking down at where he had been, i looked where he was looking and there was the snake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! where cettis feet had been a nano second before!!

the nearby vet i phoned, told me what to look for, but said that by the time i saw any signs it would probably be all over in minutes........and he didnt have any antivenom? ($1500??)
so he suggested we go off to the vet in busselton 50 kms away to have a blood test done so i could relax about the 10% doubt..........luckily all clear..........but had to watch him closely for next 24 hrs!

so hopefully next weekend at markets wont be so traumatising for me......!
